Trains are run for the public between12:00pm and 4:00pm on the fourth Sunday of each month (December - January excepted), weather permitting. Extra days are scheduled in November and December.
Occasionally trains may also run on other days and times. Check this page for updates or contact the webmaster.
At times trains may also be running for private functions. Rides for the public may not be available at these times.
These private runs are not normally advertised here.

Rides are $2.00 per person and take around 7-8 minutes.

Please note. As with other miniature railways - insurance, health and safety regulations require that all passengers MUST wear enclosed footwear.
No bare feet, thongs, sandals or other open-toed footwear can be permitted on the trains.
To avoid disappointment, we do have suitable footwear in various sizes available at the station to borrow.

2010 public running days - weather permitting*

January Sorry, no public run day February 28
March 28 April 25

November 28 December 5, 12, 19

* At times weather conditions make running or riding the trains unsuitable - heavy rain or very strong winds for example.
At such times running of trains may be cancelled.
Please note that weather conditions can vary markedly in different parts of Gippsland, and just because it is sunny and warm in one part, does not mean it will be in Traralgon.
Your webmaster (from Stratford) knows this from frequent experience. Be warned!
It does also work the other way with suitable weather in Traralgon and yet pouring rain elsewhere.

Our portable tracks will be in use at the following public events*.

Morwell Town Common - Saturday March 13, 2010

* Private events (parties etc.) and other hirings not advertised here unless requested.

The carriages used on our railway run on rails 7¼" (185mm) apart or 5" (127mm) in some cases. Therefore they will tip over if you try to stand on the foot boards. Please note the correct method for getting on the trains is illustrated below.

  • Step over the carriage first, do not step on the foot boards.

  • Be seated.

  • Now, and only now, you may lift your feet onto the carriage foot boards.

Please remember:-

  • Always sit facing forward and do not lean to the side.

  • Do not rock the carriage.

  • Keep in mind that you are balanced on narrow track and leaning over can result in derailing or tipping the carriage over which could result in injury to yourself and others.
